I came to the conclusion that he's a compulsive liar.

I confronted him about it, and he said he didn't realize he was doing it.

It's not necessarily important things that he's lying to be about, but it's the fact that he feels the need to lie.

After a few months, I gave him another chance.

Not even a week later he came crying back apologizing telling me how sorry and stupid he was, that he needed to stick with it because he knew I was going though a lot of stress.
